A Short History of Teutonia Männerchor

· We were founded in 1854 as a German Singing Society

· In 1888 our clubhouse (which is a National Register Building), was built with significant labour provided by the Immigrant German members

· Our clubhouse is a source of pride to our members and Neighbors in the area known as “Deutschtown” for the many German, Austrian and Swiss immigrants who came there. It is one of very few Pittsburgh National Register buildings still used for its original purpose!

We are one of the oldest such clubs in the Nation and our Singing society is as well.

But our club now offers many events and groups for other interests – Ethnic Dancing, a Stein Society, a pool league, Genealogy group, German lessons, Bierkameraden, Children's’ singing and dancing and a traditional German-style 22 rifle shooting group.

We have an active social schedule in addition to our big Oktoberfest season and Maifest celebrations, we have many special dinners during the year and many occasional events such as “Huhner Flügel und Bier” (wings and beer), Father-Daughter dinner, Lunches, Sunday brunches, “Musik im Ratskeller” and seasonal events. We have the best selection of German biers on tap in the city. Our clubhouse can serve member parties and weddings.

We recently added a traditional Biergarten with a fine view of the city and a “Wappen Wall” which includes a mural of Rheinstein Castle (in the area of the mythical LORELEI ). The Garten (Unter Den Linden ) has its own functions, such as a Pig -roast, “Key West night”, “Fish- fry “ and more.
